GE Gas Power has concluded operations & maintenance work on generators at Iraq’s Besmaya Power Plant. There, work was carried out on four 9F.03 gas turbines, two steam turbines and six generators. The company claimed the service will minimise the risk of inadvertent downtime at the site, meaning it can supply up to 3GW of power to the national grid.

The construction of a floating solar photovoltaic power facility in the Seychelles has been deferred because of the challenges posed by the Covid-19 health crisis. The Seychelles News Agency has reported that the 5MW project will be the world’s biggest seawater-floating solar system. An offtake deal for the 5.8GWh of electricity produced per year will finalise in the next few months.

The latest auction conducted by state-run Solar Energy Corporation of India attracted a record-low price bid of $0.032/kWh (Rs2.36/kWh). This bid was made by Spain’s Solarpack Corporación Tecnológica. Six foreign firms won most of the 2GW of projects on offer.

Siemens Gamesa has announced plans to shut down its factory in Aoiz, Spain to improve its long-term competitiveness as a result of the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The plant specialises in small turbine models often used domestically and the closure will impact a total of 239 people employees.
