Huaneng Power International has received approval to build a coal-fired generating unit for Qinbei Power Plant from China’s National Development and Reform Commission.
The 1,000MW domestic ultra-supercritical power unit will be part of the Phase III project at the plant.
The RMB4.18bn ($630m) project includes installation of electrostatic precipitators, flue-gas desulphurisation and denitrification facilities and on-line flue-gas on-going monitoring system.
It will also include denitrification facilities at one 600MW generating unit of the Phase II Project.
The project will be financed by the power company, capital contributions by Henan Province Construction Investment Company and Henan Province Jiyuan City Construction Investment Company, and bank loans.
Huaneng Power owns a 60% equity interest in the Qinbei Power Plant, in which the various emission indices satisfy the environmental protection requirements of the state.
