Power companies EVN and Statkraft have begun constucting three hydropower plants on the Devoll River in Albania.

The three hydropower plants will have a combined capacity of 320MW and are expected to produce about 1000Gwh of energy.

The total investment for these three projects could reach up to €1bn, according to the companies.

“The implementation of this project, which is one of the major investments in Albania in the field of hydro energy, will enable the full optimisation of the Devoll River, through three planned hydropower plans,” Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha said.

EVN and Statkraft have received this contract in a tender over a consortium made up of Iceland’s Landvirskjun and Kurum Holding of Turkey.
