Chevron’s subsidiary Chevron Technology Ventures will use land at its molybdenum mine in the village of Questa, New Mexico, for solar panels that will feed into its planned 1MW solar power plant nearby.

According to a report by Associated Press, 20 acres at the mine will be used for 175 solar panels.

Through a power-purchase agreement, Kit Carson Electric Cooperative has agreed to buy the energy generated from the plant.

California-based Chevron, the country’s second-largest oil company has not disclosed the cost of the power-generating project.

Construction of the plant is slated to begin in the spring.
