Power and automation technology group, ABB, has won an order worth around $33m from NTPC, to build two substations in Maharashtra, India.
ABB Power Systems division head Brice Koch said the substations will provide the transmission and distribution infrastructure to increase capacity and meet the growing demand for electricity in the region.

“They will also help to strengthen the grid and improve power reliability,” said Koch.
The substations will include 17 400 kilovolt (kV) bays and 14 132 kV bays in Solapur, and 12 400kV bays and eight 132kV bays in Mauda.
ABB’s scope of work includes design, engineering, supply, installation, commissioning and associated civil works for the substations.
The company will also employ a IEC 61850 substation automation system which will aid in open communication between the numerous control and protection devices within the substation and outside.
