Reliance Infrastructure, through its subsidiary Reliance Power Transmission (RPTL), has commissioned the seventh transmission line in the state of Maharashtra, India ahead of schedule.
The 311km, 400kV Pune-Parli double circuit transmission line, which is part of the 1,500km Western Region System Strengthening Scheme (WRSSS) II project, will connect key industrial centres of the state that include Pune, Aurangabad and Beed.

The WRSSS II project includes four projects, namely A, B, C and D, and Power Grid Corporation of India carried out the bidding process in selecting the Independent Private Transmission Company and entrusted the implementation of project B and C to RPTL.
RPTL then formed the wholly-owned, project-specific ‘Special Purpose Vehicle’, Western Region Transmission (Maharashtra) Private Limited (WRTMPL) and Western Region Transmission (Gujarat) Private Limited (WRTGPL) to undertake the Project B and C respectively.
Awarded to the company on a build, own and operate (BOO) basis through tariff-based international competitive bidding process, the WRSSS II project calls for the construction, maintenance and operation of nine transmission lines of 3,285km (circuit) length for 25 years of the license period.
WRTMPL will execute six lines with a line length of 2,137km, while WRTGPL will be responsible for the remaining three lines of length of 967km. The total project will be executed at a cost of around INR17bn (€201.5m).

The three remaining lines are Rajgarh-Karamsad line; Limbdi (Chorania) – Vadavi (Ranchodpura) line; and Vadavi (Ranchodpura) – Zerda (Kansari) line.
Of the total, the company has already commissioned four transmission lines in Maharashtra including LILO of Solapur-Karad; LILO of Lonikand-Kalwa, Parali-Solapur and Solapur-Kolhapur and two in Gujarat including Limdi-Vadavi and Vadavi-Kansari.
Reliance infra CEO Lalit Jalan said the company has commissioned the Pune-Parli transmission line in time despite the right of way and other local challenges.
Jalan said, “This is India’s first ever 100% privately owned inter-state transmission project of the National Grid and we at Reliance Infrastructure are proud to be implementing it.
“On completion, the project would enable evacuation of surplus power of around 4,000MW from the eastern part of the country to the western region.”
