GERB Vibration Control Systems - Earthquake Protection, Vibration Control and Structure Borne Noise Reduction in Power Plants

GERB designs and manufactures elastic support systems for all types of power plant machinery to protect from earthquakes, to reduce vibrations and structure borne noise and to reduce foundation costs.

GERB spring elements consist of coil springs which are fitted into rigid steel boxes designed to resist static and dynamic loads. Viscodampers®, also developed by GERB are offered to reduce resonance caused vibrations and to protect from seismic vibrations.

ELASTIC SUPPORT OF TURBINE AND BOILER FEED PUMP FOUNDATIONS

Elastic support of turbine and boiler feed pump foundations has been developed by GERB together with the machine manufacturers and is now used for steam and gas turbines with capacities up to 1,600MW. This foundation system provides technical and commercial advantages compared to conventional foundation systems.

VIBRATION ISOLATION OF COAL CRUSHERS AND COAL MILLS

Coal crushers and coal mills (pulverizers) with high dynamic loads cause significant vibration in their vicinity which can lead to disturbance, damage and interruption of power plant operation. Some important advantages of the GERB foundation system with spring units and Viscodampers are:

• Smaller foundations (40% reduction in mass) are more economic and save erection time
• Reduction of transmission of vibration to boiler and boiler house
• Increased lifetime of machinery, longer maintenance free periods and higher availability of mills
• Easy realignment of coal mill foundation in case of settlement

SPRING SUPPORT OF FANS

Spring support of ID, FD and PA-fans is required to reduce dynamic loads resulting from imbalances caused by wear and tear during operation of the machines.

VIBRATION ISOLATION OF GAS AND DIESEL ENGINES

Diesel generators as well as emergency diesel gensets are elastically supported to reduce transmission of vibrations up to 98% and to protect the generator from settlement and from earthquake damage.

PROTECTION OF PIPING SYSTEMS

GERB pipework dampers are viscous dampers specially designed to reduce vibrations of pipings. They develop high damping forces in case of shock loads and reduce operational vibrations as well as seismic vibrations in all degrees of freedom. GERB pipework dampers are maintenance free making them a cost-effective solution.
