The newly installed RV weighs more than 500t and measures 15m in height. Heat produced in the RV is transferred to the steam generator and turns water into steam, which spins a turbine and generates electricity.

Equivalent to the length of a tennis court, the steam generators will be used to conduct a controlled nuclear reaction to generate clean and reliable electricity for the UAE grid. This will be used by homes and businesses across the country.

"The UAE’s Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme supports the Abu Dhabi plan by contributing to a diversified energy mix and sustainable, long-term economic growth."

ENEC's board of directors' chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “The UAE’s Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programme supports the Abu Dhabi plan by contributing to a diversified energy mix and sustainable, long-term economic growth.

“The installation of the final reactor vessel and steam generators, as per the 2009 Prime Contract, is a great achievement.”
