Knockodhar is expected to be equipped with up to 50 turbines, while Greenburn could accommodate around 15 turbines.

ESB Renewables manager Dave McNamara said: “Recognising the long-term imperative to take fossil fuels out of our economies, onshore wind continues to be one of the most cost-effective solutions in terms of new renewable electricity generation.

“Onshore wind continues to be one of the most cost-effective solutions in terms of new renewable electricity generation.”

“This agreement builds on other successful partnerships in Scotland and both companies look forward to working together to provide development opportunities on these two sites of considerable potential.”

With the latest partnership, ESB also seeks to grow its onshore wind business in Scotland.

The collaboration is in addition to ESB’s existing platform of 400MW, which is being developed as part of a partnership with Coriolis Energy.

In April this year, ESB announced a co-development agreement with Bordna Móna to develop solarpower projects in four locations in Ireland’s Roscommon, Offaly, and Kildare.

The projects are expected to supply renewable energy to power the equivalent of 150,000 homes.
