Vattenfall’s new 54.4MW windfarm in Northumberland, UK, has become fully operational.

Developed with an investment of around £90m, the Ray windfarm features 16 3.4M104 Senvion turbines. On an annual average, the farm will be able to produce enough renewable power to meet the equivalent annual demand of more than 30,000 UK households.

Scottish civil engineering firm RJ McLeod was also involved in the windfarm's development, which took around two years to complete.

Commissioning of Ray follows the completion of Vattenfall’s new Pen y Cymoedd farm in Wales in May this year. It is equipped with 76 turbines.

"Ray windfarm is now fully operational, just a few weeks after its bigger sister, Pen y Cymoedd, hit the same target."

Vattenfall's wind business area head Gunnar Groebler said: “Vattenfall continues to grow its wind business in the UK with Ray windfarm now fully operational, just a few weeks after its bigger sister, Pen y Cymoedd, hit the same target.”

Gunnar further added: “We’re convinced that onshore wind can and will help keep energy bills down for consumers and businesses, while driving clean economic growth. That is why we continue to develop good projects in the UK.”
