In collaboration with Ice Energy, US-based Horizon Solarpower has installed a new solar-plus-ice-battery-storage system at the Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs, California.
The newly installed system includes a rooftop array featuring 73.6kW of solar panels from Horizon and five Ice Energy Ice Bear 30s. It has replaced the theatre’s existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

Throughout the day, the system’s solar panels will supply energy to the theatre and charge the Ice Bears, which offer up to four hours of cooling in the evening using minimal electricity.
Camelot Theatres' general manager Matthew Christensen said: “The combination of the two companies provided us with an incredible option to cut our costs during peak usage hours.”
The theatre features a three-screen movie house, has received funding from California’s Self-Generation Incentive Programme (SGIP) and Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) to install the solar-plus-ice-storage system.
Horizon Solarpower's business development director Claude McGee said: “The Camelot Theatres' greatest energy load comes from turning on the AC in late afternoons and early evenings for community events.
