Engineering services company SNC-Lavalin has secured a mandate of more than $22m from PSEG Power Connecticut for its 485MW Bridgeport Harbor Unit 5 combined-cycle project in the US.

Under the deal, SNC-Lavalin will be responsible for providing engineering and procurement support for the  plant, which is located at the company’s existing Bridgeport Harbor Station site in Connecticut.

In addition, the company will deploy certain key personnel to help PSEG Power enhance its on-site construction management team.

SNC-Lavalin will provide engineering services both on-site and from its Seattle office, which specialises in natural gas plant engineering.

With an investment of more than $550m, the Bridgeport Harbor Unit 5 project is expected to be completed and will begin supplying electricity in June 2019. Featuring the latest and advanced emissions control technology, the combined-cycle gas-fired facility meets all applicable federal and state emissions regulations.

Primarily operating on natural gas, the plant will also be able to run on ultra-low sulfur distillate (ULSD) used as a back-up fuel. The facility will also be able to generate 350 new construction jobs, in addition to approximately 20 permanent jobs.
