Bujagali is a 250MW hydro power project. It is located on Victoria Nile river/basin in Eastern, Uganda. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2007 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2012.

The project is developed and owned by Bujagali Energy.

Bujagali is a run-of-river project. The gross head of the project is 22m. The project generated 1,305 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $900m.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Uganda Electricity Transmission under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors Involved

Webuild was selected to render EPC services for the hydro power project.

GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 5 units of kaplan turbines, each with 52.7MW nameplate capacity.

GE Renewable Energy supplied 5 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 62 MVA.

Global Power Generation is the O&M contractor for the hydro power project. The operation and maintenance contract commenced from 2012, for a period of 11 years.
