Enel Green Power North America (EGPNA) has commenced construction of Lindahl wind project in the US state of North Dakota.

This 150MW capacity project is the company’s first in this state and it will be able to annually generate power of approximately 625GWh.

The energy produced has the potential to supply more than 50,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by about 450,000 tonnes annually.

Enel Green Power’s head of North America Rafael Gonzalez said: "Lindahl underlines the strength of Enel’s growth strategy in North America.

"The project will be able to annually generate power of approximately 625GWh."

"The new windfarm also marks the Group’s entrance into a new state, North Dakota, further broadening our geographical footprint in the United States."

The project is expected to become operational by 2017 and will see investment of $220m, as per the firm’s current strategic plan. Under a long-term power purchase agreement, generation will be sold to Basin Electric Power.

This is the fourth clean energy project taken up by Enel in the country since January this year. EGPNA has presence in 22 states and two provinces in Canada.

It has over 2.5GW of combined installed capacity, of which 2GW is from wind, 316MW from hydro, 72MW from geothermal, and 29MW from solar.
