Vattenfall has selected MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as preferred turbine supplier for Horns Rev 3 in Denmark.
Sweden-based Vattenfall has picked MHI Vestas Offshore Wind (MVOW) as the preferred turbine supplier for its 400MW offshore wind project Horns Rev 3 in Denmark.

MVOW, a joint venture between Danish company Vestas and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, will supply V164-8 MW turbines for the facility, which will be developed along the west coast of the European country.
Vattenfall won the bid for construction and operation of the project in March this year.
As per the concession agreement signed between Vattenfall and the Danish Government, the project is scheduled to be commissioned by 1 January 2020.
Once operational, the offshore facility is likely to generate enough electricity for nearly 450,000 households.

By GlobalDataThe Swedish utility also intends to start geotechnical investigations and procurement of foundations and cables for the offshore project soon.
The facility is expected to contribute to Denmarks’ 2020 reduction targets for carbon dioxide emissions set by EU.
Vattenfall also owns a 60% stake in the Horns Rev 1 offshore wind project, which will house 80 turbines and is currently being developed.
The firm is further constructing two other offshore wind projects, Dan Tysk and Sandbank, in co-ordination with Stadtwerke München in the German part of the Nordic Sea.
