Denmark-based Dong Energy has selected MHI Vestas as a preferred turbine supplier for the 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind power project in offshore Germany.
The status entitles MHI Vestas to deliver V164-8.0MW wind turbines for the facility which, is being developed in the North Sea at nearly 57km distance from the north-west coast of the country.

Firm and unconditional orders for the delivery have not been given out yet.
Once operational, the offshore wind development will be able to supply electricity for 460,000 German households.
Commercial operations of the wind project have been scheduled to start by the end of the year.
Dong Energy Wind Power executive vice-president Samuel Leupold said: "It’s very satisfying to see the competitive performance level that MHI Vestas has brought into this tender and the offshore wind industry.

By 2030, the German Government intends to install 15GW of offshore wind power in the country. The initiatives are in line with the nation’s strategy to shift towards renewable power.
To date, Dong Energy has installed 3GW of offshore wind equipment, and plans to install around 6.5Gw in total by 2020.
