"The facility is equipped with 54 of General Electric’s (GE) 1.85MW turbines and 50 of V100 2.0MW turbines from Vestas."

The facility is connected to the Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) transmission infrastructure, which allows the rest of Texas access to long-term, clean, competitively priced energy from the western parts of the US state.

EDF Renewable Energy executive vice-president Ryan Pfaff said: "We applaud the State of Texas for its vision in designing and implementing the CREZ transmission build-out over the past eight years.

"CREZ has served to unlock the rich wind resources of the Texas Panhandle and West Texas for the benefit of millions of Texans, in the form of competitively priced, clean energy from projects like Hereford Wind."

As well as offering clean energy and reduction to greenhouse gas emissions, the project has a capacity to power around 55,000 homes.

The project is the fourth operating wind project for EDF Renewable Energy in the US state, the other being the Spinning Spur I and II (161MW each) and Bobcat Bluff (150 MW).

The firm will continue to offer long-term operations and maintenance for the facility, balance of plant, project oversight, and 24/7 remote monitoring from its NERC compliant Operations Control Center (OCC).
