German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex has been awarded a contract for delivering 43 N100/2500 turbines for the ALLETE Clean Energy (ACE) owned 107.5MW Thunder Spirit wind project in North Dakota, US.

According to the deal, Nordex will also offer services to the wind farm for a five-year duration.

The wind farm is located in Adams County in North Dakota and faces strong winds with a mean annual wind speed of 9m a second in tandem with low-turbulence.

The 43 turbines installed in such conditions are expected to generate an annual power yield of up to 426GWh.

"As well as being equivalent to an above-average capacity factor of over 45%, the wind project will generate enough renewable electricity to power more than 39,000 US households."

Construction of the towers for the facility is likely to start from the end of July 2015 and Nordex is expected to deliver the initial few turbines at the site by mid-August 2015.

By December 2015, the power plant is scheduled to be connected to the grid and go online.

As well as being equivalent to an above-average capacity factor of over 45%, the wind project will generate enough renewable electricity to power more than 39,000 US households.

Thunder Spirit wind farm has qualified under the necessary production tax credit system, and will supply electricity to a regional utility under a power purchase agreement (PPA).

Wind Works Power had been the original developer for the project, which is presently owned by ACE, a subsidiary of ALLETE after a sale process earlier this week.

ACE has initiated works for infrastructure of the project and will sell it to Montana Dakota Utilities in Bismarck, North Dakota, after construction.
