Toshiba JSW Power Systems has secured a contract from Indian state-owned energy service provider NTPC Limited to supply two 800MW super-critical steam turbine and generator island packages for the Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station.

Under the contract, Toshiba JSW will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the complete steam turbine and generator island packages.

To be built in Sundargarh district of Orissa state on 1,652 acres site area, the coal-fired power station will have a capacity of 1600MW. The project will receive seven million tonne of coal per annum from Dulunga area in the state and 12.5 million tonnes from Pakri Barwadih coal blocks in Bihar.

The new turbines will be operational in early 2018.

In January 2014, Toshiba reinforced its thermal power generation business in India by integrating the engineering function of Toshiba India into Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator.

Toshiba Group, which produces supercritical steam turbines and generators in the 800MW category in India, has also won an order from Meja Urja Nigam to supply two 660MW supercritical steam turbines and generator island packages for Meja Thermal Power Project.
