A consortium of European offshore wind companies has submitted an application to the European Commission (EC) to receive funding under the Horizon 2020 initiative.
Led by Senvion, the consortium intends to use these funds to design the next generation of offshore wind turbines as part of development project ReaLCoE.

ReaLCoE will see the development, installation, demonstration, operation, and testing of offshore wind turbine prototypes. It aims to develop a strong and reliable solution to supply clean and competitive electricity.
Each of the turbines will have more than 10MW capacity.
Senvion CEO Jürgen Geissinger said: “ReaLCoE’s vision is to unleash the full potential of offshore wind energy to be in direct competition with conventional energy sources in electricity markets worldwide.
“This will be achieved by innovating and combining multiple disciplines within the offshore sector. This will make it possible to leverage on the efficiencies and levelised cost of electricity (LCoE) reduction potentials in every link of the value chain.

German utility EnBW and research and development (R&D) institutes such as ECN and Fraunhofer IWES are involved in ReaLCoE.
