UK-based engineering and construction company J Murphy & Sons has acquired Carillion’s UK power framework business.

Under the deal, J Murphy & Sons has taken over Carillion’s substation, underground cable framework contracts and its position on the National Grid’s electricity overhead lines.

J Murphy & Sons CEO John Murphy said: “This represents an excellent strategic fit for the business, allowing us to bring a full range of services across the power sector for our customers both in the UK and internationally.”

As a result of the acquisition, J Murphy & Sons and Eltel have created a new JV company called MEJV for the overhead line and T-pylon frameworks.

The power frameworks acquired from Carillion will enable J Murphy & Sons to work with The National Grid and deliver planned replacement and refurbishment schemes on the transmission network between England and Wales.

According to J Murphy & Sons, the frameworks will provide an essential national infrastructure, which includes a 400kV overhead line from Richborough to Canterbury that will be connected to the Nemo Link interconnector in Belgium.

J Murphy & Sons is also planning to improve its energy infrastructure services with the addition of Carillion employees.
