US-based electric utility Florida Power and Light (FPL) has unveiled its new solar-plus-storage system, which is designed to be integrated with battery technology to improve the overall energy output of solarpower plants.

FPL is planning to deploy the new system at its plant Citrus Solar Energy Centre to enhance its generating capacity by more than 0.5 million kilowatt-hours a year and deliver it to the grid.

FPL president and CEO Eric Silagy said: “Every day, we work on new ways to better serve our customers with technology innovations and efficiency improvements.

“This has the potential to further reduce our fossil fuel consumption and save our customers even more money on their electric bills.”

“That’s how we continue to set the standard for advancing clean energy affordably, including building solarpower plants at a lower cost than anybody. Now, with advances in battery storage technologies, we are looking at the next level.

“By harnessing more solar energy from the same power plant, this has the potential to further reduce our fossil fuel consumption and save our customers even more money on their electric bills.”

FPL’s new system will feature multiple batteries and will have a 4,000kW storage capacity, which can be later dispatched to the grid.
