Clean technology company N2OFF has announced plans to bolster investment in the 111 megawatts peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic project located in Melz, Germany to explore the potential integration of a 40 to 60MWp battery energy storage system (BESS).

The investment is part of N2OFF’s plan to boost its renewable energy business.

The project secured approval from the Melz Municipal Committee in December 2024.

This approval facilitated the project’s integration into the statutory plan – a crucial advancement towards achieving ready-to-build status by early 2026.

The project plans to incorporate a 40 to 60MWp BESS to boost its ability to store and supply clean energy, ensuring grid stability.

By integrating battery storage, the Melz facility will store excess solar energy generated during peak production times or purchase electricity from the grid when prices are low.

This stored energy can then be released during high-demand periods, enhancing the facility’s profitability, efficiency and reliability.

N2OFF CEO David Palach stated: “We are excited to take this step toward enhancing the Melz solar project with advanced battery storage technology.

“By increasing our investment to explore a 40 to 60MWp BESS, we are strengthening our position in our current project and continue to explore what we believe to be new lucrative opportunities.”

The Melz project is a key component of a broad partnership between N2OFF and Solterra Renewable Energy, which is fully owned by Solterra Energy.

The collaboration is focused on rapidly advancing the development of “high-potential” renewable energy facilities throughout Europe.

The two companies are working together on initiatives including the creation of two BESS in Sicily, Italy, each with a capacity of 98MWp/392 megawatt hours (MWh).

There is also an exclusive agreement between N2OFF and Solterra Energy to jointly develop solar photovoltaic projects in Albania, as well as a 35MW/140MWh BESS project in Poland.
