This agreement comes as the global push to scale up renewables intensifies to meet climate goals, making responsible sourcing and manufacturing increasingly critical.

GWEC is in the process of establishing the wind sustainability initiative (WSI), a multistakeholder initiative for the sector, inspired by the SSI’s model.

The WSI aims to drive industryewide environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and traceability standards for wind energy.

The partnership is designed to ensure that the rapid expansion of renewable energy does not compromise ethical or environmental standards.

Together, they will align best practices, enable knowledge exchange, and coordinate action to uphold these standards across the industry.

This approach showcases a collective commitment to responsible growth, facilitating project financing and enabling developers and utilities to scale without incurring compliance or sanction risks.

The partnership will reinforce multistakeholder governance by actively involving key industry representatives, civil society organisations, and financial institutions.

By doing so, the SSI and GWEC aim to accelerate the adoption of responsible sourcing practices across renewable energy supply chains worldwide.

The SSI is a multistakeholder initiative focused on responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship in the solar value chain.

In June this year, it was revealed that the offshore wind industry added 8GW of capacity in 2024, revealed the flagship Global Offshore Wind Report by GWEC.
