Rolls-Royce has introduced a new modular solution for gas engine power plants designed to strengthen Germany’s energy supply and advance the country’s Power Plant Strategy.
The new turnkey plants, capable of delivering from 5MW up to several hundred, are built around preconfigured, factory-tested modules rated at 10MW, 20MW and 30MW each. This modular design enables connection to the grid within just 12–18 months after an order is placed – significantly accelerating deployment timelines compared with conventional plant builds.
The units are “hydrogen-ready”, allowing future conversion to hydrogen fuel as Germany transitions toward a low-carbon energy mix. Beyond providing continuous generation capacity, the systems can offer backup power to offset variable output from wind and solar energy, bridging periods of low renewable generation that can range from several hours to weeks.
