The Singapore-based company acquired a 100% stake in Alinta Energy from Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, which had owned Alinta since 2017.

Alinta’s operations include 3.4GW of installed and contracted generation capacity spanning coal, wind, gas and solar power assets. The company supplies electricity and gas to almost 1.1 million customers across Australia.

In addition, Alinta maintains a 10.4GW development pipeline, which Sembcorp plans to integrate with its existing energy business and global expertise.

Sembcorp East Renewables president and CEO Alex Tan said: “Completing this acquisition is a significant step in executing our growth strategy and reinforces Australia as an important market for Sembcorp.

“With Alinta’s strong platform and pipeline, we are well-positioned to support their growth while ensuring reliable energy and long-term value to Australian communities and customers. Sembcorp looks forward to making a positive contribution to Australia’s energy transition.”

Sembcorp stated that Alinta would continue to operate under its current brand and structure.

The existing management team of Alinta, led by managing director and CEO Jeff Dimery, will remain in place. The company employs more than 1,000 people nationwide.

Dimery said: “Today is a significant and positive milestone for our business and people. With completion behind us, we can focus on execution and continue delivering for our customers and the communities we serve.

“Sembcorp’s long-term commitment, financial strength and renewables capability position us well to progress the investments needed to support a secure and cleaner energy future.”
