RWE and Meta have signed a long-term corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) for the 298MW-alternating current Rabbit’s Foot Solar project in north-east Texas, US, extending a partnership that now totals 872MW of signed solar deals over the past two years.

The project, in Bowie County, is already under construction and is expected to reach commercial operation by the end of 2027.

The deal adds to previous agreements between the two companies for the 274MW Emily Solar project in Illinois, the 100MW Lafitte Solar project in Louisiana and the 200MW Waterloo Solar facility in Texas. For Meta, the project supports its goal of matching operations with 100% clean energy.

RWE says Rabbit’s Foot Solar will bring more than power to the Texas grid. The company expects the project to generate approximately $50m in long-term tax revenue over 40 years for Bowie County and local institutions including the DeKalb Independent School District, Texarkana College and Emergency District #6.

The project also fits into RWE’s wider US buildout, with the company operating roughly 13GW of solar, wind and battery storage across 27 states and plans to continue expanding its generation portfolio through the end of the decade.
