L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a division of Indian conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has received a limited notice to proceed (LNTP) from NTPC for work on the main plant package at the 1.6GW Lara Stage-III thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh, India.
The contract covers the construction of two 800MW ultra-supercritical generating units.

The final notice to proceed will be issued once the project receives environmental clearance and the LNTP period is complete.
The company did not disclose the exact contract value but said it falls within the Rs100bn ($1.04bn)–Rs150bn range.
L&T will be responsible for designing, engineering, manufacturing, supplying, installing, testing and commissioning boilers, steam turbines, generators, electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) and air-cooled condensers (ACC), as well as their auxiliary systems.
The company’s remit also includes associated mechanical, electrical, control, instrumentation and civil engineering work.
The project will be carried out on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, utilising ultra-supercritical technology.
This approach aims to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
Once operational, the plant is expected to contribute 1.6GW of baseload power to India’s electricity grid in response to increasing demand linked to industrial growth, urbanisation and new infrastructure.
L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions focuses on power and low-carbon process solutions.
The business combines engineering, manufacturing and project execution expertise and works with international partners in engineering and manufacturing, according to the company.

L&T is an Indian multinational with reported revenues of $32bn.
The group undertakes EPC projects, high-tech manufacturing, and a range of products and services, operating across multiple sectors and locations worldwide.
In August 2025, L&T secured a contract from Adani Power to set up eight thermal power units.
