With this addition, Vistra’s total power generation capacity in the US rises to nearly 50GW.

The acquired facilities use combined-cycle combustion turbine (CCGT) and cogeneration technologies and operate in several major power markets, including PJM, ISO New England, and Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

Vistra said the new fleet includes plants in states such as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, and Texas.

The assets include Patriot (881MW) and Hamilton-Liberty (881MW) in Pennsylvania, Lakewood (286MW) and Ocean (375MW) in New Jersey, and Rock Springs (740MW) in Maryland.

The portfolio also consists of Newington (624MW) in New Hampshire, Bridgeport (558MW) in Connecticut, Tiverton (297MW) in Rhode Island, Rumford (271MW) in Maine, and Altura Cogeneration (583MW) in Texas.

Most of these plants are combined-cycle combustion turbine facilities, while Ocean and Rock Springs use combustion turbine technology, and Altura operates as a cogeneration facility.

Vistra president and CEO Jim Burke said: “Natural gas plays a critical role in meeting our nation’s growing energy needs, and the Cogentrix assets are a strong strategic fit for Vistra as we continue to grow our generation portfolio.

“We’re excited to bring these experienced teams together around a shared commitment to safety, operational excellence, and reliability.

“Our Vistra team knows how to successfully integrate generation assets into our fleet, and we look forward to building on Cogentrix’s strengths and delivering long-term value for our stakeholders.”

Vistra said the transaction builds on its record of recent large-scale acquisitions.

In March 2024, Vistra completed its purchase of Energy Harbor, which added roughly 4GW of nuclear generation.

The company also acquired seven natural gas plants from Lotus Infrastructure Partners in October 2025, increasing its capacity by more than 2.3GW.
