Power cable manufacturer NKT has signed three framework agreements with Danish distribution system operator N1 to supply low- and medium-voltage power cables rated up to 72kV.

The deals have an initial term of six years with options for two further one-year extensions. They are intended to support the ongoing expansion and modernisation of Denmark’s electricity grid.

The agreements, which began in the third quarter of 2026 (Q3 2026), set out an anticipated annual delivery of 700 to 1,000km of power cables.

N1 oversees a significant share of Jutland’s electricity distribution infrastructure. Its responsibilities include maintaining and upgrading the network, as well as connecting new electricity consumers and producers.

The company supplies over 800,000 homes and businesses, covering roughly 40% of Denmark’s land area with over 56,000km of cable in place.

This development comes amid significant investment in the country’s electricity infrastructure.

NKT distribution head executive vice president Carlos Fernandez said: “We are very pleased to continue and strengthen our collaboration with N1 through these long-term framework agreements.

“Distribution grids are a fundamental part of the energy transition, and the significant investments planned in Denmark over the coming years underline the need for reliable power cable capacity and strong, long-term partnerships.

“With our expanded production capabilities in Asnaes and our broader European manufacturing footprint, NKT is well positioned to support N1 as it continues to develop the electricity grid for a more electrified future.”

A considerable share of the cables supplied under the framework agreements are expected to be produced at NKT’s factory in Asnaes, Denmark, with some low-voltage cables coming from the company’s facility in Falun, Sweden.

The new agreements build on NKT’s existing relationship with N1. They come alongside a recent expansion of NKT’s medium-voltage factory in Denmark, which aims to boost production and testing capacity to meet growing demand for power cables in Europe.

In September 2026, NKT was selected as the preferred bidder for the Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3), a high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) interconnector project linking Scotland and England.
