EDF Energy and its partners have announced the completion of connecting Taishan 1 European Pressurised Reactor (EPR) to the grid in China.

Taishan is the cooperative energy project between China and France and is operated by TNPJVC, a joint venture (JV) established between China general nuclear power corporation (51%), EDF (30%) and the provincial Chinese electricity company Yuedian (19%).

Taishan power plant is equipped with third-generation nuclear technology, jointly developed by EDF and Framatome.

Framatome is a global designer and supplier of the nuclear steam supply system and nuclear equipment, services and fuel for high levels of safety and performance.

“We are now focused on supporting our client in the start of commercial operation of unit 1. We also remain fully engaged in the completion and start-up of Taishan 2, Flamanville 3 and Olkiluoto 3, and in the delivery of Hinkley Point C in the UK.”

Construction works for Taishan 1 began in 2009.

With connection to the grid, the reactor will now undergo a period of gradual power-up tests. Upon completion, it will then be tested in steady-state conditions at full power.
