Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision for the Kriegers Flak wind farm, offshore Denmark.
Once completed, the 72-turbine Kriegers Flak wind farm in the Baltic Sea will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind complex. It will have a total capacity of 604.8 MW

It is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2021.
Under a long term power purchase agreement, around one-fifth of production from Kriegers Flak will be sold to pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk and industrial enzymes producer Novozymes.
Vattenfall CEO Magnus Hall said: “The investment in Kriegers Flak will significantly increase Vattenfall’s offshore capacity and is a cornerstone in our ambition to enable fossil-free living within one generation, as well as a major step in Denmark’s green transition. We are pleased to have reached this milestone.”
Meanwhile, the firm is awaiting the result of the appeal process at the Danish Energy Board of Appeals for the two coastal wind projects, Vesterhav Syd and Vesterhav Nord before taking a FID. The appeal process is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Construction of these two projects require a total investment of €1.7bn.

Construction of the wind farms will begin after the finalisation of the appeal process.
They are expected to be in full operation before the end of 2020.
Vattenfall senior vice president and head of business area wind Gunnar Groebler said: “Vesterhav Syd & Nord are offshore wind farms with great potential, and we are confident that they are fully in line with the framework awarded to us by the Danish state. However, we find it prudent to review the result of the appeals against Vesterhav Syd before taking further steps. ”
Once operational, Kriegers Flak and Vesterhav Syd & Nord offshore wind farms will increase Vattenfall’s offshore wind production capacity by around 25%.
They will have a total capacity of 949 MW, which is enough to power around one million households.
