Hokkaido Electric Power Company (HEPCO) Ishikariwan-Shinko Power Plant Unit 1 has achieved commercial operation in Japan.

The plant will be HEPCO’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelled thermal power plant. It is equipped with GE’s 9HA gas turbine and Toshiba’s advanced steam turbine.

HEPCO director Takeshi Aotsuka said: “By combining advanced technology from GE and Toshiba, our Ishikariwan-Shinko Power Plant Unit 1 will be one of the power facilities realising the global top-class efficiency.

“We are pleased to be providing highly efficient and reliable electricity to the citizens and businesses of Hokkaido.”

The electricity generated by the Ishikariwan-Shinko power plant will be supplied to the island of Hokkaido.

Additionally, the power plant will help HEPCO in modernising its power infrastructure and provide reliable electricity across the island.

GE and Toshiba have been working together with HEPCO since 2012, and have been providing gas generation technology for the Asian markets.
