OTN Systems, masters in mission critical communications, is pleased to announce that its MPLS-TP technology has been selected by Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) in the UAE for the telecommunication aspects of SEWA’s Project Tiger tender. SEWA is the first major utility in the Middle East to implement the MPLS-TP technology and will install OTN Systems’ XTran nodes within its network.

XTran is the superior packet network based on MPLS-TP technology and is designed for substation environments. The nodes will be installed in 70 of SEWA’s substations including the node in its Control Center. XTran underwent successful pre-qualification testing by SEWA at the OTN Systems’ headquarters in Olen, Belgium. The equipment has also been tested against standards such as IEEE 1613 and IEC 61850-3 as conducted by KEMA.

SEWA will install the fully redundant XTran XT2210 nodes. All nodes will have 10Gbps WAN links and 10/100/1,000Gbps LAN/WAN ports. In addition, the selected XTran technology will enable SEWA to migrate their existing SDH/PDH network smoothly by providing E1 and/or serial interfaces to transfer the data via IEC-60870-5-101 to SEWA’s Control Center.

OTN Systems Middle East and Africa sales director Maarten Van Cauwenberghe stated: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with SEWA and to introduce and install our MPLS-TP technology within the SEWA network. SEWA is a forward-looking and modern utility company and in this regard we are proud that it has selected our XTran nodes for the upgradation of its telecommunication systems. We are excited about showing SEWA that it is making the right investment for its future."
