Wood Group GTS has completed a major inspection and life time assessment of a Siemens SGT-600 (GT10B) gas turbine for DONG Energy A/S at the Ørsted Power Station, situated at Sydhavnen in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The major inspection included replacement of the stage 1 and stage 3 rotor blades with new parts produced through Wood Group GTS’ Advanced Parts Manufacture (APM®) programme, as well as exchange of the exhaust diffuser and modifications to the air intake system to facilitate automatic downtime preservation of the gas turbine on shutdown.

During the inspection Wood Group GTS also completed a life time assessment of the rotor which involved a detailed inspection of the gas turbine rotor at 80,000 operational hours, validating the integrity of the rotor for a further 60,000 operational hours. This service offers significant cost savings to the operator, when compared to the alternative option of rotor replacement at 120,000 equivalent operating hours.

Leif Bertelsen, maintenance engineer of DONG Energy, said: "Wood Group GTS is a technically experienced service provider. Their immediate ability to support our major inspection and assessment requirements was a critical factor in this award.

"We understand the importance customers place on securing a healthy return on their investment in power generation technology. This is precisely why Wood Group GTS invested in the development of direct replacement parts for the SGT-600.

Frank Avery, president of power plant services at Wood Group GTS, added: "When combined with our customer focussed work scopes and field service capability, we’re able to reduce maintenance costs and ensure outage deadlines are met."
