Wood Group GTS has secured a ten-year term maintenance agreement valued at $15m with Sime Darby Power Company in Laem Chabang, Thailand. The scope of work includes new gas turbine parts supply, component repair and field services for three GE Frame 6B units across two power stations.

Also included in the agreement is installation of Wood Group GTS’ EcoValue™ power augmentation technology, designed to enhance gas turbine power output and improve heat rate.

Configured in both cogeneration and combined cycle modes, these gas fired power plants are capable of delivering a total output of 165MW. Over the last eight years Wood Group GTS has completed field service work and gas turbine combustion inspections for Sime Darby; however, this latest award represents an investment in services focused on increasing the life cycle value of Sime Darby’s gas turbine power generation technology.

Dato’ Ir Jauhari Hamidi, managing director and executive vice president of energy and utilities in the non-China operations of Sime Darby, said: "Wood Group GTSs offering delivers significant benefits for our business by including their patented power augmentation solution along with a value driven approach to major maintenance services.

"Their service record, competitive proposal and ability to offer performance improvements for our gas turbine resulted in a successful contract award. This latest award strengthens our relationship with Sime Darby and we look forward to working closely with them, to enhance return on their investment in power generation assets," said Frank Avery, president of Wood Group GTS power plant services.

Wood Group GTS has also recently been awarded an additional contract by Sime Darby for the overhaul of a GE Frame 6B compressor rotor at the Laem Chabang power station. All work related to this contract will be performed within Wood Group GTS’ existing workshops in Thailand. Sankar MKSamy, Maintenance Manager at Sime Darby Thailand Co. Ltd commented.

"We require a reputable international services company, able to provide complex maintenance solutions locally, thus avoiding risks associated with exporting a critical piece of generating equipment. We are very pleased to select Wood Group GTS based on their ability to deliver a value added maintenance solution within Thailand."
