Rolls Wood Group (Repair & Overhauls) (RWG), a 50/50 joint venture between Rolls-Royce and John Wood Group, has formed a new joint venture with OTEC Kemajuan (OTEC). The joint venture was created in support of a contract to service the ever increasing needs of Petroliam Nasional Berhad and its affiliated companies (PETRONAS) for the repair and overhaul services for their entire fleet of Rolls-Royce gas turbines. The new joint venture is named Rolls Wood OTEC (RWO) with RWG holding 49% equity and OTEC holding the balance of 51%.

RWO will commence operations in August 2008 in a brand new 19,000ft² custom built workshop and office facility at Kota Kemuning near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Under a long-term service agreement with PETRONAS, RWO will provide repair and overhaul services for the client’s new and existing Rolls-Royce RB211, Avon and 501 gas turbines. The RWG facility in Aberdeen, Scotland will support the agreement with the provision of replacement parts and component repair services.

Derek Gartshore, RWO general manager said, “RWG is delighted to be a part of this new joint venture which demonstrates our continued commitment to the Malaysian market. We look forward to delivering high quality, local and cost effective gas turbine services to PETRONAS and its affiliates.”

OTEC has represented RWG in Malaysia for more than 15 years. Abdul Azis Mohamad, OTEC managing director stated, “The formation of RWO is a significant opportunity to provide repair and overhaul services for the entire Rolls-Royce gas turbine fleet owned and operated by PETRONAS. RWO will also provide career opportunities for the indigenous skills base and benefit the Malaysian economy as a whole.”
