High Country Fusion Company is the most reliable source for complete HDPE system solutions for nuclear and coal power plants. We specialize in supplying custom-fabricated HDPE pipe fittings, manholes and structures, dual containment pipe, as well as any size, length or type of HDPE pipe you can imagine for outfalls, process piping, water intake, fly ash disposal, and areas where corrosion, abrasion, marine or bacterial growth are a problem.

We also offer a full array of related services for your energy projects, including (but not limited to) fusion machine rentals, sales and repairs, fusion machine technicians, or any combination thereof. We are an authorized McElroy service center, and employ McElroy-certified mechanics.

With over 100 years of combined experience in HDPE, we can help you with virtually any type of design, support or implementation advice you could need.

HDPE pipe for energy applications

High-density polyethylene pipe (HDPE) is the best choice for a variety of energy industry applications. There are many reasons for this. HDPE is lightweight, abrasion and impact resistant, corrosion free, and has a very high resistance to most harsh chemicals. HDPE provides leak-free joints and has a very smooth surface which means it has a very low coefficient of friction or resistance to liquid flow. Because HDPE is lightweight, it saves money on shipping, installation and labor costs.

HDPE pipe for nuclear plants

On 21 July 2009 the Nuclear Energy Institute recognized the use of HDPE pipe with a Top Industry Practice award. It also produced a video that relays news of the groundbreaking decision to implement a new industry-wide standard to use HDPE pipe in all new and existing plants. ‘The Secret is Plastic’ shows how and why Duke Energy’s Catawba nuclear station in South Carolina and AmerenUE’s Callaway plant in Missouri are now using HDPE pipe to replace the much more costly carbon steel pipe.

High Country Fusion helps nuclear energy facilities implement HDPE specific solutions. The primary application for HDPE is safety-related piping for cooling water solutions, but applications also include process piping for waste water, cooling tower supply and blow down, essential and emergency water supply, underground piping, fire mains, and more.

HDPE pipe for coal power plants

HDPE is an ideal candidate for coal power plant applications. Polyethylene has a high wear resistance when compared with competing products such as steel. In fact, laboratory tests have proven that HDPE can last up to three to five times longer than normal or fine grained steel pipe. HDPE has a very high resistance to abrasion and is known for its toughness and resistance to impacts. For these and many other reasons, HDPE pipe is by far the best solution when transporting water or slurry solutions such as fly ash.

Consulting and evaluation services for HDPE pipe installation

To complement your own engineering, High Country Fusion is happy to assist in a variety of project consulting activities. These activities include:

  • Pipe size and fitting selection
  • Design reviews
  • Plan takeoffs
  • Estimation of costs and quality control
  • Installation review
  • Custom specifications
  • Engineering to ASTM-F1759 (HDPE manholes)

Because of our long and varied experience with all types of HDPE systems, we can help answer many tough questions like:

  • Is the design functional?
  • Is there a simpler way to do this?
  • Is there a more cost-effective way to do this?
  • Can I do ‘this’ with HDPE pipe?
