Canada’s power industry registered a 13.2% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 8.33% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.

Out of the power industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 8.88% share in August 2021, recording an increase of 0.74% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s power industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.11% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s power industry in August 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 52.83% in August 2021, registering a 16.67% flat growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 24.53% share, an increase of 30% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 9.43%, registering a 16.67% decline from July 2021.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 5.66%, down 50% over the previous month.

Top five power companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 135.29% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s power industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

Siemens posted 13 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 18.18% over the previous month, followed by Hydro-Quebec with 12 jobs and a flat growth. Emera with 7 IT jobs and Fortis with 4 jobs, recorded a 133.33% flat growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Just Energy Group recorded an increase of 33.33% with 4 job postings during August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 62.26%, down by 2.94% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 30.19% share, registered an increase of 77.78% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 7.55% share, down 33.33% over July 2021.
