Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive artificial intelligence-related hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 20%, emerged as the top artificial intelligence-related job roles within the power industry in Q1 2024, with new job postings rising by 6% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 9% in Q1 2024, with new job postings dropping by 16% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent artificial intelligence roles include Architecture and Engineering Occupations with an 8% share in Q1 2024, Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in power industry accounted for 26% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2024 were AES, E.ON, Engie, Plug Power, and A2A. Together they accounted for a combined share of 26% of all artificial intelligence-related new jobs in the power industry.

AES posted 286 artificial intelligence-related new jobs in Q1 2024, E.ON 144 jobs, Engie 119 jobs, Plug Power 115 jobs, and A2A 111 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 42.69% share of total new job postings, Q1 2024

The largest share of artificial intelligence-related new job postings in the power industry in Q1 2024 was in the US with 42.69% followed by Italy (11.71%) and India (7.18%). The share represented by the US was five percentage points lower than the 47.64% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
