Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive internet of things-related hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 19%, emerged as the top internet of things-related job roles within the power industry in Q4 2023, with new job postings drop by 6% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 14% in Q4 2023, with new job postings dropping by 20% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent internet of things roles include Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 12% share in Q4 2023, Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in power industry accounted for 79% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q4 2023 were Schneider Electric, Siemens, Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust, Octopus Energy, and Zodiac Pool Systems. Together they accounted for a combined share of 79% of all internet of things-related new jobs in the power industry.

Schneider Electric posted 1,694 internet of things-related new jobs in Q4 2023, Siemens 584 jobs, Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust 120 jobs, Octopus Energy 68 jobs, and Zodiac Pool Systems 67 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 37.74% share of total new job postings, Q4 2023

The largest share of internet of things-related new job postings in the power industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 37.74% followed by France (10.63%) and India (9.69%). The share represented by the US was three percentage points lower than the 40.95% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
