Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive smart grid-related hiring activity

Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 14%, emerged as the top smart grid-related job roles within the power industry in Q4 2023, with new job postings drop by 40% quarter-on-quarter. Architecture and Engineering Occupations came in second with a share of 10% in Q4 2023, with new job postings rising by 3% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent smart grid roles include Management Occupations with a 10% share in Q4 2023, Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in power industry accounted for 43% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q4 2023 were Electricite de France, Romande Energie Holding, EnBW Energie Baden-Wurttemberg, Tauron Polska Energia, and Vector. Together they accounted for a combined share of 43% of all smart grid-related new jobs in the power industry.

Electricite de France posted 80 smart grid-related new jobs in Q4 2023, Romande Energie Holding 60 jobs, EnBW Energie Baden-Wurttemberg 48 jobs, Tauron Polska Energia 39 jobs, and Vector 32 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 30.23% share of total new job postings, Q4 2023

The largest share of smart grid-related new job postings in the power industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 30.23% followed by France (13.46%) and Germany (9.97%). The share represented by the US was three percentage points lower than the 33.38% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
