The top five companies accounted for 7% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that State Grid Corporation of China filed the most renewable energy patents within the power industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 157 renewable energy-related patents in the quarter, compared with 782 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Siemens Energy with 149 renewable energy patent filings, Contemporary Amperex Technology (127 filings), and Trina Solar (90 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 46% share of total patent filings
The largest share of renewable energy related patent filings in the power industry in Q3 2024 was in China with 46%, followed by the US (12%) and Japan (4%). The share represented by China was 21% lower than the 67% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
