The top five companies accounted for 7% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Contemporary Amperex Technology filed the most renewable energy patents within the power industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 196 renewable energy-related patents in the quarter, compared with 268 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Siemens Energy with 172 renewable energy patent filings, State Grid Corporation of China (145 filings), and Vestas Wind Systems (94 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 53% share of total patent filings
The largest share of renewable energy related patent filings in the power industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 53%, followed by the US (11%) and Japan (4%). The share represented by China was 14% lower than the 67% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
