UK power industry IT recruitment activity drops 6.1% in August 2021

The UK’s power industry registered a 6.1% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring a decreased by 7.64% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.

Out of the power industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 8.16% share in August 2021, recording an increase of 0.16% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s power industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.92% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s power industry in August 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 54.84% in August 2021, registering a 13.56% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 17.2% share, an increase of 100% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 12.9%, registering a 20% decline from July 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 8.6%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five power companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 7.41% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s power industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

SSE posted 19 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by National Grid with 14 jobs and a 6.67% drop. Centrica with 11 IT jobs and Siemens with 8 jobs, recorded a 22.22% flat growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Elektro Eletricidade E Servicos recorded an increase of 100% with 6 job postings during August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.52%, down by 6.25% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 22.58% share, registered an increase of 50% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 10.75% share, down 23.08% over July 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 2.15%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
