A patent application (Publication Number: US20240006892A1) describes a method for stabilizing an island mode in an energy hub. The method involves disconnecting the energy hub from the grid to establish island mode and supplying electrical energy from generators to the electrical infrastructure. By using the electrical energy from consumers, fluctuations in voltage and frequency are passively damped. The method includes monitoring the voltage and frequency and selectively disconnecting and/or reconnecting non-critical consumers to maintain predetermined nominal values.

Furthermore, the method designates critical and non-critical consumers of electrical energy within the infrastructure, with non-critical consumers including battery chargers, electrolytic separators, and mechanical or thermal storage. The energy hub, which can be a wind farm with offshore wind turbine generators, forms a local grid using generators or battery energy storage systems. Additionally, the method involves selectively disconnecting and/or reconnecting a plurality of non-critical consumers to assist in damping fluctuations in frequency and voltage, with the option to do so individually or as a group. The generators supplying electrical energy to the infrastructure may not include all generators within the energy hub, ensuring efficient stabilization of the island mode.
