Overall, Egypt’s thermal power generation capacity grew by a CAGR of 8% from 2010 to 2021, to reach 53,157MW, and generation grew by a CAGR of 3% to reach 173,854GWh in 2021.

Installed capacity is forecast to increase by 2,111MW from 2022 to 2035, at which point thermal power is expected to account for 61% of total installed generation capacity. There is no coal based thermal power capacity in the country. Gas capacity was 49,671MW in 2021 and it is expected to reach 51,835MW by the end of 2035. Oil capacity is expected to be 3,433MW by the end of 2035.
