Total power industry deals worth $13.7bn were announced globally for April 2021, with the $3.37bn private equity deal with Sempra Infrastructure Partners being the sector’s biggest investment, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 49.2% over the previous month of $26.99bn and a drop of 18.8% when compared with the last 12-month average of $16.89bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a drop of 11.43% with 155 deals in April 2021 when compared to the last 12-month average of 175 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $6.18bn in April 2021.

The top five deals accounted for 60.9% of the overall value during April 2021.

The combined value of the top five deals stood at $8.36bn, against the overall value of $13.7bn recorded for the month.

1) KKRInc’s $3.37bn private equity deal for 20% stake with Sempra Infrastructure Partners

2) The $1.63bn asset transaction with Orsted by Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM)

3) Igua Saneamento’s $1.36bn asset transaction with Cedae (Statefor Water and Sewage of Rio de Janeiro)

4) The $1.26bn asset transaction deal of Helia Renovables FCR by Northland Power

5) Nextera Energy Partners‘ asset transaction deal with Brookfield Renewable Partners for $733m.
