US power industry sees a flat growth in deal activity in November 2020

The US power industry saw a flat growth in overall deal activity during November 2020, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 43 deals worth $1.93bn were announced in November 2020, compared to the 12-month average of 43 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 23 deals which accounted for 53.5% of all deals.

In second place was venture financing with 14 deals, followed by private equity with six transactions, respectively accounting for 32.6% and 13.9% of overall deal activity in the country’s power industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US power industry with total deals worth $1.74bn, while private equity deals totalled $191.18m.

US power industry deals in November 2020: Top deals

The top five power industry deals accounted for 92.4% of the overall value during November 2020.

The combined value of the top five power deals stood at $1.79bn, against the overall value of $1.93bn recorded for the month.

The top five power industry deals of November 2020 tracked by GlobalData were:

1) KKR &Inc and Nextera Energy Partners’ $1.3bn asset transaction with NextEra Energy Resources

2) The $216.1m asset transaction with Centaurus Renewable Energy by Boralex

3) Clearway Energy’s $202m asset transaction with NRG Energy

4) The $50m venture financing of Aurora Solar by Energize Ventures, Fifth Wall Ventures Management, ICONIQ Capital and Pear VC

5) Aker Solutions’ acquisition of Principle Power for $19.86m.
