The global power industry noticed a 1.0% drop in IT hiring activity in March 2022 over the previous month, led by Siemens 16.31% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The power industry’s overall hiring activity increased 0.17% when compared with February 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 9.87% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in March 2022, down 0.19% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of March 2022 were 3.91% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 12.4% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 56.66% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in March 2022, an 8.82% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 14.25% in March 2022, up 16.2% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.47% share in March 2022, a decline of 3.45% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.08% share in March 2022 and a flat growth over February 2022.
Top five power companies by recruitment activity in March 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 6.4% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during March 2022 over February 2022.
Siemens posted 476 IT jobs in March 2022 and registered a drop of 15.75% over the previous month, followed by Schneider Electric with 184 jobs and a 3.66% decline. NextEra Energy with 132 IT jobs and Vestas Wind Systems with 94 jobs, recorded a 14.78% growth and a 6.82% rise, respectively.
Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in March 2022 with a 55.33% share, which marked a 14.62% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 26%, registering a 1.56% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.82% share and a 1.41% drop over February 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.99% and a month-on-month flat growth. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.86%, registering a 56.25% increase over the previous month.
