The global power industry noticed a 1.0% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by Siemens 7.77% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The power industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.81% when compared with July 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for an 8.71% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, up 0.18% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 2.67% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 7.53% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive power IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 38.91% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in August 2022, an 8.11% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 22.37% in August 2022, down 14.27% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with an 18.43% share in August 2022, a growth of 34.67% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.88% share in August 2022 and a rise of 2.05% over July 2022.

Top five power companies by recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 63.83% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

Siemens posted 213 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 25% over the previous month, followed by NextEra Energy with 154 jobs and a 4.05% growth. Siemens Energy with 153 IT jobs and Sunrun with 123 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 6050% rise, respectively, while Schneider Electric recorded a 336% rise with 109 job postings during August 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 57.7% share, which marked a 16.94% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 27.04%, registering a 19.72% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 12.88% share and a 0.28% rise over July 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.57% and a month-on-month rise of 13.16%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.8%, registering a 4.76% increase over the previous month.
